DESCRIPTION:The Behaviour Change Meeting Group at The University of Manch
 ester has the purpose of bringing together academics and clinicians acro
 ss several institutes who are working with behaviour change\, interventi
 on development and/or implementation theory. We usually meet online on t
 he first Thursday of the month at 3pm\, inviting external speakers and i
 nternal speakers to discuss and gain feedback on their latest research i
 n the field. We have a range of health and clinical psychologists in the
  group as well as epidemiologists\, nurses and physiotherapists who work
  with a range of different short-term and long-term conditions in differ
 ent contexts (public\, patient and healthcare professional groups).\n\nI

 \n\nOur next Behaviour Change Meeting will be held on Thursday 3rd April
  2025 at 3pm\, where we have Dr Rachael Hewitt presenting on ‘The Think 
 Quit Study: Empowering nurses to address smoking cessation with hospital
  patients in Wales’\n\nRach is a Senior Health Behaviour Change Speciali
 st at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (NHS Wales) where she ho
 lds a clinical research post and advises the Local Public Health Team on
  use of Behavioural Science in practice. Rach is also a Trainee Health P
 sychologist enrolled on the British Psychological Society’s Stage 2 Qual
 ification in Health Psychology.\n\nPreviously Rach worked in the School 
 of Healthcare Sciences at Cardiff University\, conducting applied psycho
 logical\, inter-disciplinary and international research mainly in the fi
 eld of medical dermatology. In June 2024\, Rach completed her PhD\, whic
 h involved co-developing a complex digital behaviour change intervention
  for adults living with skin conditions\, with input from patients. In 2
 023\, Rach was awarded a Rising Star Scholarship to deliver an invited p
 resentation at the 25th World Congress of Dermatology in Singapore. To d
 ate\, she has 20 peer reviewed publications and research funding from in
 dustry and charity partners totalling £350K.\nRach has expertise in clin
 ical communication and is an experienced Motivational Interviewing (MI) 
 practitioner. Previously she led the national implementation and evaluat
 ion of a specialist training programme called PsoWell™ designed to upski
 ll dermatology specialists in MI to address the psychological impact of 
 psoriatic conditions and support health behaviour change with patients d
 uring consultations. She has since led and facilitated MI workshops worl
 dwide and continues to help improve the communication between patients a
