DESCRIPTION:We're delighted to invite you to the second talk in our "Inst
 ruments in Chinese music" series. The series features three talks hosted
  by Po Hang Yuen\, each focusing on a different instrument. \n\nThe seco
 nd in our series is the violin. The talk examines the transmission of vi
 olin culture from Europe to China. We will discuss how the violin influe
 nced Chinese musical development and explore various compositions writte
 n over the last century.\n\nThe guest for this talk will be Ziluo Huang.
  \n\nZiluo Huang is a Chinese violinist and a PhD student in musicology 
 at the University of Manchester. Ziluo graduated from the Royal College 
 of Music with a Master of Music in Performance degree with distinction. 
 She also obtained the Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the Royal Birming
 ham Conservatoire with scholarship. She won the Absolute First Prize in 
 the UK International Music Competition in 2023. She has performed in ven
 ues around the country such as the Birmingham Town Hall\, Symphony Hall\
 , St James Concert and Assembly Hall in Guernsey\, St John’s Smith Squar
 e\, St Mary’s Perivale in London\, Holy Trinity Church in Warrington\, D
 janogly Theatre in Nottingham and others. Ziluo has also played in maste
 rclasses for Kun Hu\, Mark Messenger\, Elly Suh\, Radu Bildar\, Yuri Zhi
 slin\, John Gilbert and Tamsin Waley-Cohen.\n\nPo Hang Yuen (Arthur) has
  earned degrees from University of Hong Kong\, King’s College London\, a
 nd Royal Northern College of Music\, and is now pursuing his doctorate i
 n Composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Dance with Julian And
 erson\, Malcolm Singers and Raymond Yiu. Having studied composition for 
 five years\, Yuen received numerous commissions and collaborative opport
 unities from leading soloists and ensembles\, including the Avanti Chamb
 er\, BBC Philharmonic\, Britten Sinfonia\, London Mozart Players\, Phace
 \, Psappha\, Sofia Philharmonic\, and Trio Immersio. His piano trio Trip
 tych has won the third prize in the professional section of the “The New
  Melodies” II International Composers Competition. The music was publish
 ed by Dmitry Danilov Music Agency LLC and performed at the Whitehall of 
 the Polytechnic Institute in St. Petersburg. Last July\, Yuen’s Cosmic E
 mbrace for large ensemble received its world premiere in Finland\, as a 
 part of the Avanti Summer Sounds Festival directed by Unsuk Chin.\n\n\nA

 ks are free\, informal and informative lectures aimed at anyone with an 
 interest in Chinese culture and language.
