SUMMARY:Chemically linking 2D nanosheets to generate new materials with n
 ovel properties

DESCRIPTION:National Graphene Institute will be hosting a seminar from a
distinguished speaker\, Prof CNR Rao from India\, who is receiving honor
ary doctorate from University of Manchester. \n\n\nProperties of graphen
e and other 2D materials have been investigated widely. Recent studies
of van der Waals heterostructures have provided a new direction in the s
tudy of 2D materials. \nA new approach is to covalently bond the nanosh
eets of the same or different materials. This strategy is a novel and u
seful means of achieving improved as well as new properties. \nCovalent
bonding of nanosheets is achieved by employing different coupling react
ions\, depending on the functional groups already present or created in
the 2D sheets. We shall examine \nsome of the important systems and the
ir impressive properties.1 2D sheets have also been successfully linked
  by supramolecular means.\n\nReferences\n\n\n1. C.N.R. Rao\, K. Pra
