‘’ Working Visuals: capturing, prompting and enabling moments of transformation”
I work as a declutterer in Glasgow. Some of my clients have severe hoarding tendencies, some less so, all are somewhat stuck.
It is my job to help release their objects - and them - back into their flow of life.
I get to travel the world from an attic or a cupboard or a living room table; my clients' objects connecting them and me to
material and historic trade lines, familiar histories as well as internal landscapes of hopes, trauma, grief and dreams.
In this seminar I am going to talk about how I make photography and film work for me in my decluttering work.
Photographs of before and after, films narrating stories and senses of place, and photographs of objects to be let go of.
In each case the ritual of recording honours the object and the person, and the film or
photograph holds that connection whilst their object is released to another place.
