  the different 'cultural' approaches to compromise in ethics and law.  I
 t considers areas of ethical controversy such as euthanasia\, abortion\,
  and embryo experimentation and asks whether it is possible to reach a l
 egal and practical compromise on these issues in order to solve the prob
 lem of legislating in these areas.
