 \nDescription of the talk : \n\nThe talk examines the political impacts 
 on the poor’s subjectivity provoked by neoliberal policies such as inclu
 sion through consumption that emerged during the Workers’ Party administ
 ration in 21st century Brazil. How does this political subjectivity mani
 fest? In addition\, I seek to analyse whether the fostering of consumer 
 practices could empower the poor. If so\, what kind of empowerment does 
 conspicuous consumption promote? This study is based on ethnographic res
 earch in a low-income community in Porto Alegre during Rousseff’s Admini
