DESCRIPTION:This webinar will discuss emerging findings from their study
“The impact of Care Act Easements on co-resident carers over 70 looking
after partners living with dementia”.\n\nThe project investigated the ex
periences of people aged over 70 who were caring for somebody living wit
h dementia at home\, often their partner or family member. During the pa
ndemic\, the Coronavirus Act 2020 gave local authorities unprecedented p
ower to suspend their usual adult social care duties (these suspensions
were known as 'easements'). This meant that carers often faced the sudde
n removal of existing support services during the early stages of the pa
ndemic. \n\nThe primary objective of the study is to investigate the imp
act of easements on this group of carers and those responsible for safeg
uarding within local authorities. The webinar will present data from int
erviews with Principal Social Workers and Safeguarding Leads from 20 loc
al authorities including easement authorities and 30 interviews with car
ers over 70 caring at home for a partner living with dementia.\n\nIt wil
l consider the implications of the research for policy and practice in c
urrent pandemic circumstances\, and for the future.\n\nThe webinar is ai
med at local authorities\, health and social care workers\, third sector
organisations\, advocacy groups and anyone with an interest in formal a
nd informal care of older people at home during the pandemic.\n\nAll wel
come. Once registered\, the Zoom link to access the event will be sent t
 o you.
