About the event:

Cancer remains one of the major healthcare challenges in the world and there are many barriers to the development of novel treatments. The increasing cost-per-unit of new drug development, a diminishing research and development pipeline, an ageing population, and increasing financial pressures on the public sector are some of the major challenges in this space.

Collaboration is hugely important for cancer research, improving not just the level of investment but also the quality and range of treatment options available for patients. Moreover, the Big Pharma model is changing, placing more emphasis on working with external partners in the development of new treatments, particularly the academic community.

“ Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges in Cancer Research” will bring together scientists from academia and industry as well as clinicians to discuss the current progress and challenges happening across the spectrum of cancer research. From sourcing new industry-academic partnerships, to the translation of discoveries into patient care, we will address how the infrastructure of cancer research is changing to create significant improvements in the collaborative efforts between these groups and ultimately provide more opportunities for patients in the fight against cancer.
