DESCRIPTION:Professor Philip Diamond - SKA Director General\n \nThe Squar
e Kilometre Array: detecting the cosmic dawn\, gravitational waves and l
ife in the Universe.\n \nThe SKA will be the next generation radio teles
cope\; it will be the largest scientific instrument ever built. It is an
international project\, with 11 countries involved to date. The project
Headquarters is based in a new building at Jodrell Bank Observatory. Th
e SKA is being designed to address some of the most fundamental scientif
ic questions that face humanity\, from studying the physics of the dawn
of the cosmos\, through probing Einstein's predicted gravitational waves
to understanding the origins of life itself. I will describe the scope\
, goals and status of the SKA and provide a flavour of some of the techn
ological challenges that face the design team.\n\nThis event is suitable
for 15 years +\nStarts 7.30pm\n\nPlease note this event has now sold ou
