DESCRIPTION:Now entering its 32nd year\, Manchester’s biggest student cla
 ssical music festival showcases a variety of ensembles and soloists over
  a four-day period. From big band to brass band\, opera scenes to orches
 tral works\, Estival promises something for everyone. This summer\, the 
 music of Bohuslav Martin? plays a particularly important role (we may be
  a year late in marking the 50th anniversary of his death\, but he was s
 omewhat overshadowed by Haydn’s 200th\, after all). A selection of works
  by this prolific composer will reveal the diverse influences he masterf
 ully absorbed\, including those of jazz and the folk music of his belove
 d Czechoslovakia. Also featuring the music of Martin?’s compatriots\, Es
 tival’s Thursday night concert concludes with Janacek’s magnificent Sinf
 onietta\, complete with 12 trumpets.
