DESCRIPTION:A conversation between Herman Gray (UC Santa Cruz) and Anamik
Saha (Goldsmiths).\n\nHow has the politics of racial representation cha
nged in the past thirty years? Professor Herman Gray (UC Santa Cruz)\, a
uthor of Watching Race: Television and the Sign of Blackness (2004\, Min
nesota) and Cultural Moves: Culture\, Identity and the Politics of Repre
sentation (2005\, California) will discuss the prospects and limits of r
epresentation\, in light of changing political commitments to visibility
and representation as routes to social equity. \n\nJoining him in conve
rsation will be Dr Anamik Saha (Goldsmiths)\, author of Race and the Cul
tural Industries (2017\, Polity) and Race\, Culture and Media (2021\, SA
GE). Gray and Saha will consider what the limits of racial representatio
n mean for media studies\, industrial responses\, and activist mobilisat
ion. \n\nIn particular\, they will address the shifting conditions of pr
oduction and distribution engendered by digital platforms. The conversat
ion will be transnational in its scope\, touching on the complexities of
global financing partnerships\, Black diasporic alliances\, and white r
acial grievances. Equally\, it will consider the particularities of the
UK policy context whilst situating it in global and comparative perspect
 ive.\n\nOnline event - register via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.c
