About the event:
Direct Access is a term that describes the ability of patients to seek health care from Dental Care Professionals (DCPs) without first seeing a dentist. Over recent years, direct access as a policy has been expanding across the globe. Proponents argue that direct access is safe, has the potential to increase the capacity to care, improve access and potentially reduce oral health inequalities and costs. The objective of this presentation is to present the findings from a recent evidence synthesis that examined the attitudes, effects and costs of direct access to DCPs in a primary dental care environment. It will also present the findings from an in vitro study before exploring the regulatory space that exists in dentistry for DCP use.
