DESCRIPTION:‘Microscopy on the micro- to nano-scale: The STFC Central Las
er Facility “Octopus” microscopy cluster’.\n\n\nThis is the fourth semin
ar in the University of Manchester at Harwell Ideas Forum Imaging series
. The aim of this series is to increase networking of academics and res
earchers across the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the National
Laboratories. In doing so\, we hope to link experienced users with new u
sers to teach them about the University of Manchester and the Harwell Na
tional Facilities.\n\n\nDr David Clarke\, will talk about the Science an
d Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Central Laser Facility’s microsco
py cluster\, Octopus\, which is based in the Research Complex at Harwell
\, and offers a wide range of laser-based microscopy techniques\, and co
rrelative microscopy using light and electrons. The facility is supporte
d by a multidisciplinary team\, able to guide the user through all aspec
ts of the experiment\, from sample preparation to data analysis and inte
rpretation. In this seminar\, Dr Clarke will describe the microscopy met
hods available at Octopus\, and will show examples of the wide range of
research carried out at the facility\, ranging from cancer and infectiou
s disease research\, to the characterisation of designer nanomaterials.\
n\n\nThis seminar will be recorded and available to watch after the even
t.\nA zoom link will be sent to attendees the day before the seminar.
