DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Daniel Meyer (University of Liverpool)\n\nTitle: Wea
ving of Folding Maps\n\nAbstract: A folding map is obtained by a piece o
f paper (i.e.\, a $k$-gon) that is folded and mapped to itself. Such a m
ap may be obtained from a real rational map where $z/in /mathbb{C}$ and
its complex conjugate $\\bar{z}$ are identified. Using natural identific
ations one may obtain from such a map a generalized pseudo-Anosov map\,
which will be an invertible map in the $3$-sphere. We also introduce the
notion of weaving of maps\, which is a formal description of the identi
fications. Roughly speaking\, two maps are represented by the left- and
right-shift\, with two groups acting on it which yield the identificatio
ns. This is joint work with Andre de Carvalho and Toby Hall.\n\nRoom: Fr
 ank Adams 1\n\nFurther information: https://personalpages.manchester.ac.
