Synopsis: A brief overview of the evidence for inflammation being involved in diseases of the brain, including stroke and Alzheimer’s. Professor Stuart Allan will describe how he studies these conditions experimentally and some of the key findings his group has made over the years in their research to suggest inflammatory processes as a possible target for new treatments and finish with recent data confirming that the cytokine IL-1 is a key target in stroke.
