SUMMARY:Nuclear Graphite Technology Course
UID:{http://www.columbasystems.com/customers/uom/gpp/eventid/}oo2-k1223u1
 u-3g12ps
DESCRIPTION:The Nuclear Graphite Research Group of The University of Manc
hester are hosting a short course in Nuclear Graphite Technology on 12-1
3 November 2019.\n\nAround 20% of UK electrical power is generated by 14
graphite moderated Advanced Gas-cooled Reactors (AGRs). These AGRs are
between 30 to 42 years old\, ie: beyond their envisaged design life of ~
25 years. Understanding of the behaviour of graphite and graphite compon
ents in the reactor environment is key to the lifetime extension of thes
e stations and to the design and operation of the next generation of gra
phite-moderated reactors.\n\nThe course aims to introduce professionals
to an overview of nuclear graphite technology drawing on historical aspe
cts as well as recent experience\, insight and research gained over the
past 60 years of reactor civil operation.\n\nOver two days this course w
ill focus on the areas of:\n\n• AGR Safety\n\n• AGR Designs\n\n• AGR Gra
phite Ageing\n\n• AGR Graphite Core Structural Integrity\n\n• AGR Operat
ional Experience and Lifetime Management\n\n• Weight Loss\n\n\nWith part
icular detail on the following:\n\n• Graphite Reactor Core Design\n\n• N
uclear Graphite Manufacture\n\n• Graphite Property Measurement (Irradiat
 ed and Unirradiated)\n\n• Dosimetry\n\n• Radiolytic Oxidation\n\n• Irrad
iation Damage in Graphite Crystals/Crystallites and Polycrystalline Grap
 hite\n\n• Irradiation Creep\n\n• Materials Models\n\n• Graphite Componen
 t Structural Integrity\n\n\n
