DESCRIPTION:This workshop aims to provide tools to improve presentation s
kills in academic settings. The combination of lecture and group activit
ies will enables the participants on the one hand need to identify short
comings in their own presentation skills and on the other hand to improv
e their performance for future academic conferences and presentations.\n
\nWe will cover topics such as material preparation\, how to find a good
introduction and conclusion for presentations\, a better use of visuals
\, body language and how to prepare for Q&A.\n\nThe first half of the co
urse consists of an interactive lecture capturing important aspects of t
he aforementioned topics. After a lunch break the participants will then
engage in previously prepared mini-presentations and constructive feedb
ack sessions. For this participants are asked to prepare a very short pr
esentation (max. 3 min) on a topic of their choice\, aimed at a non-spec
ialist audience.\n\nNo previous experience is required for participation
. This workshop is presented by Tina Hannemann\, a Research Associate at
the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research at the University of Man
chester.\n\nIn the past the workshop has been very popular and was well
received. Prior booking is therefore necessary via the methods@mancheste
r website or directly via Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a
