DESCRIPTION:Natalie Cunningham (Host)\, Senior Lecturer in Leadership for
  Development\nTom O’Brien\, Global Development Expert\n\nClimate change
represents one of the most complex and daunting challenges confronting t
oday’s development practitioners and organisations. As extreme weather e
vents hit vulnerable Global South communities at an ever-growing and dis
proportionate pace\, new questions arise about how to implement developm
ent strategies in a changing world. \n\nWhat effect will climate change
have on existing regional conflicts\, resource shortages\, industrial de
velopments\, and migration patterns? And how can development leaders man
age the stakeholder tensions that arise from these problems? How can we
foster economic growth and stability while mitigating the impact of deve
lopment projects on the environment? What responsibilities do organisati
ons in the Global North have in reckoning with climate change and enviro
nmental degradation as legacies of colonialism and exploitation? \n\nIn
our next Community of Practice\, we’ll discuss these issues and more wit
h Tom O’Brien\, a professional economist and global development expert w
ith over three decades of front-line experience. Tom will discuss his fi
rst-hand experiences of juggling competing pressures within the World Ba
nk as the Vice President’s Senior Adviser for Africa before opening the
floor to wider discussion. As ever\, we welcome participants from a rang
 e of career stages\, sectors\, and backgrounds.\n\nPlease register via Z
oom and get in touch with Natalie Cunningham (natalie.cunningham-3@manch
ester.ac.uk) if you have any questions. \n\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/regi
