 cer is one of the University’s five research beacons and we have invited
  key research partners to join us on campus to demonstrate how we are co
 llectively fighting cancer.\n\nA public engagement event to inform and i
 nspire the University community and beyond will take place in University
  Place on Friday\, 3 February 2017 that will include a range of interest
 ing\, interactive activities which highlights how Manchester cancer rese
 arch is saving lives globally and the significant impact our research ma
 kes here in Manchester and beyond. So why not take this opportunity to c
 ome along and meet the people behind the science?\n\nAs well as finding 
 out from on-hand cancer awareness nurses and other healthcare profession
 als how you can do your part to reduce the global burden of cancer thoug
 h lifestyle changes\, you can meet our scientists and get hands on with 
 the research leading advances in personalised medicine\, targeted treatm
 ent and immunotherapy. You can get an up close look at cancer cells on o
 ur Virtual Reality lab tours and find out how you can get involved with 
 supporting cancer prevention and healthy lifestyle initiatives in your c
 ommunity.\n\nYou can also listen to five minute lightning lectures from 
 Manchester researchers and academics  who want to inform and engage you 
 with their latest cancer discoveries\, share their experiences of fantas
 tic cancer care here at Manchester\, talk about what fascinates them abo
 ut cancer research and treatment or simply explain why they think they h
 ave the most fantastic job in the world!\n\nThis is an annual global eve
 nt and aims to save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising 
 awareness and education about the disease\, pressing governments and ind
 ividuals across the world to take action.\n\nWorld Cancer Day is a chanc
 e to reflect on what you can do\, make a pledge and take action. Whateve
 r you choose to do\, ‘We can. I can.’ make a difference to the fight aga
 inst cancer.\n\nThe exhibition takes place in the Foyer\, University Pla
 ce\, Oxford Road (11am-2pm) and the lectures will take place 12 noon-1pm
 .
