DESCRIPTION:"MicroRNA-based therapies for epilepsy"\nMicroRNAs are short
noncoding RNA sequences which suppressgene expression by binding to the
3’ untranslated region of targetmRNA transcripts. MicroRNAs are dysregul
ated in epilepsy\, andhave emerged as both biomarkers and therapeutic ta
rgets for thedisease. The precise molecular and consequent biophysicalme
chanisms of microRNA manipulation depend on the particulartarget pool of
each microRNA\, and this has implications for brainexcitability and the
pathophysiology of epilepsy. I will give anoverview of the field to dat
e\, and focus on two key publicationswhich have led to the discovery of
new microRNA targets forepilepsy\, including microRNA-335\, which can mo
dulate seizuresvia interaction with Scn2a transcripts
