DESCRIPTION:This unique presentation is the latest in a series of Entangl
 ements devised by theatre-makers Karen Christopher and David Overend. Th
 ese informal\, hybrid events weave text\, film\, music and/or movement t
 ogether with spontaneous conversation amongst participants. Each entangl
 ement brings Karen and David into dialogue with local artists and audien
 ces\, exploring creative processes and the possibility of new collaborat
 ions.\n\nOn this occasion\, in Manchester\, we are looking at songs and 
 singing as a form of archive. Whether in songs produced by the music ind
 ustry\, or improvised by children\, or shared by Iranian carpet-pattern 
 singers\, we find complex and idiosyncratic ways in which music and lyri
 cs become archival tools. Songs can be used to interpret and understand 
 particular perspectives and moments in time. They also form the archived
  soundtracks to our lives—often triggering stored memory and emotion whe
 n heard or sung. In Manchester\, we will use song to reflect on both the
  past and the present. Can we create a new song for this moment in time\
 , and sing it together?\n\nWith Karen Christopher\, David Overend\, and

 r’s Department of Drama and Film\, as part of the “archive” series run b
 y CIDRAL (Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Arts and Languages).
