DESCRIPTION:The year 2015 is the centennial of the birth of Nobel laureat
 e Arthur Lewis. Professor Gary Fields\, the leading labour economist in 
 the world working on developing countries\, will present the Lewis Cente
 nnial Lecture. Professor Fields was awarded the 2014 IZA Prize in Labor 
 Economics\, the most prestigious science award in the field\, for his ou
 tstanding contributions on the importance of efficient labour markets to
  fight poverty and foster economic development in low- and middle-income
  countries and by pioneering economic thinking about labour markets in d
 eveloping countries by focusing on indicators such as poverty\, inequali
 ty and income mobility. \n\nThis lecture is hosted by The Manchester Sch
 ool\, Brooks World Poverty Institute\, Institute for Development Policy 
 and Management\, and the Department of Economics.
