DESCRIPTION:Join us for this research seminar\, part of the SQUIDS (Stati
stics\, quantification of uncertainty\, inverse problems and data scienc
e) seminar series.\n\nAbstract: Optimization and Sampling problems lie i
n the heart of Bayesian inverse problems. The ability to solve such inve
rse problems depends crucially on the efficient calculation of quantitie
s relating to the posterior distribution\, giving thus rise to computati
onally challenging high dimensional optimization and sampling problems.
In this talk\, we will connect the corresponding optimization and sampli
ng problems to the large time behaviour of solutions to (stochastic) dif
ferential equations. This connection allows us to understand better the
properties of such algorithms and in addition allow us to develop more e
fficient algorithms. A number of different algorithms will be discussed
both for optimization as well as sampling.
