This fringe event to Conservative conference in Manchester will discuss the Industrial Strategy and the role of City Regions and Devolution in delivering the rebalancing of the British Economy.
The Industrial Strategy remains a central tenet of government policy to create an economy that works for everyone. Greg Clark is a consistent advocate and has driven the next phase of a regionally-focused industrial strategy, but how deep is the commitment throughout government? And how high a priority is it? As Mike Emmerich argues in his book Britain’s Cities, Britain’s Future, “city building involves doing the right thing, at scale and for a very long time … and policy ideas need to be accompanied by sustained commitment to the achievement of a bold long-term vision.”
The event is organised by Discuss Manchester, and supported by Policy@Manchester, part of the University of Manchester. The event hosts, Mazars LLP, will start with a complementary drinks reception at 5:00pm and the fringe will start 5:45pm.
Confirmed speakers include: Rt Hon Greg Clark MP, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy; Professor Diane Coyle, University of Manchester; Joanne Roney, Chief Executive, Manchester City Council; Mike Emmerich, Founding Director, Metro Dynamics.
The event is outside the secure zone so conference accreditation is not required. There are limited spaces for this event, all interested guests must register via Eventbrite.
