 ly Phase of the Pandemic

DESCRIPTION:We model of India’s pandemic vulnerability in an innovative w
ay. We create and estimate a multi-disciplinary model of the risk of sev
ere COVID-19 \nand death. Our model allows for socio-demographic-group d
 ifferentials in risk\; obesity\; underweight people\; co-morbidities\; a
nd \nother regional and lifestyle factors.\n \nWe map the results for 11
states. We use three different data sources: the National Family Health
Survey for 2015/6\, Census data for \n2011\, and data for COVID-19 deat
hs up to June 2020. COVID-19 deaths in north and central India were high
er in areas with older and overweight \npopulations\, and were more comm
on among people (mainly men) who smoke\, or who live in urban areas. \n\
nPolicy experts may want to use the disaggregated and spatially-specific
data to improve wellbeing outcomes during the pandemic. \nThe future us
es of our innovative data-combining model are numerous.\n\n
