DESCRIPTION:At this seminar\, our external speaker Dr Kym Snell\, Lecture
r in Biostatistics at Keele University\, will present a talk titled “Ext
ernal validation of existing prediction models for pre-eclampsia and dev
elopment of new models using an individual participant data (IPD) meta-a
nalysis”.\n\n\nSummary:\nPre-eclampsia is a condition that can occur in
the second half of pregnancy and is a leading contributor to maternal an
d perinatal mortality and morbidity. Accurately predicting which women a
re at high risk of pre-eclampsia would enable effective antenatal care t
o reduce the risk of developing pre-eclampsia and the adverse outcomes a
ssociated with it. Over 130 models have been developed for predicting pr
e-eclampsia\, yet few have been externally validated and none are curren
tly recommended by guidelines.\n\nThe International Prediction of Pregna
ncy Complications (IPPIC) collaborative network consists of 125 collabor
ators from 25 countries\, many of whom have contributed individual parti
cipant data (IPD) from primary studies. The IPPIC database contains IPD
from over 70 studies and over 5 million women with information on clinic
al characteristics\, biochemical markers\, ultrasound markers as well as
maternal and offspring complications. \nIn this talk I will discuss how
we externally validated existing prediction models\, and developed and
validated new prediction models for pre-eclampsia using an IPD meta-anal
ysis approach with the IPPIC data. The talk is intended for a wide audie
nce\, and will discuss issues such as missing data\, meta-analysis metho
ds for summarising predictive performance\, dealing with between-study h
 eterogeneity\, and examining clinical utility.\n\n\n\nFor Zoom details\,
