Title: The Hartogs–Lindenbaum Spectrum
Abstract: Under the axiom of choice, if there is a surjection Y-->X then there is an injection X-->Y. However, if the axiom of choice fails this may not hold, even if X can be well-ordered. This gives rise to the concepts of Hartogs and Lindenbaum numbers of a set. We will explore the history of these numbers and investigate the phenomenon of the Hartogs–Lindenbaum spectrum as it relates to the axiom of choice.
