DESCRIPTION:The talk will explore the current British perception about Ch
 inese culture and how different artforms and works might help to raise p
 ublic understanding and appreciation of contemporary Chinese perspective
 s. \n\nThe first Chinese Arts Now (CAN) Festival that took place earlier
  this year\, celebrated and promoted artists of Chinese extraction in th
 e UK\, both those born in Britain and those from the wider Chinese diasp
 ora. More than 60 high-quality events took place throughout London showc
 asing a diverse range of art forms\, presenting contemporary British-Chi
 nese stories and new works that fuse Chinese heritage and European cultu
 re in innovative ways. "There are great Chinese traditions\, but I think
  there is a gap in showing contemporary Chinese culture. We don't live i
 n a time where we just perform lion dances\, we have contemporary theatr
 e\, new music\, and we have innovative artists." An-Ting Chang explains.
  \n\nAn-Ting Chang is a concert pianist\, composer\, theatre and artisti
 c director of Chinese Arts Now (CAN). In addition to solo and chamber re
 citals\, An-Ting is constantly seeking new and creative approaches to co
 mbine her concerts with different media\n
