 ion and addressed major family law conferences. \n\nPro Bono\nThroughout
  her career\, she and her firm conducted pro bono work including a daily
  lunchtime service in her 12 office network. \nA notable pro bono case\;
  solicitor Sally Clark\, convicted of the murder of two infant children.
  A first appeal to the Court of Appeal had been unsuccessful but Marilyn
  subsequently became involved and acting pro bono obtained further medic
 al evidence not produced at the original trial and the conviction was qu
 ashed. No re-trial was ordered. \n\n\nMy talk will be a run through of m
 y career from opening a single office age 27 on a secondary shopping par
 ade in East Leeds with an overdraft and three mortgages\, plus a handful
  of legal aid clients\, through the development of my firm culminating i
 n a £multi million sale to private equity of the UK’s largest family law
  firm.\nIt is possible to enjoy the roller coaster ride of being a passi
 onate committed lawyer\, while at the same time giving back to society\,
  and being a wife\, mother and an equally passionate entrepreneur. Pro b
 ono featured heavily in my career\, including the well known case of law
 yer Sally Clark. \nIts not easy\, but if you truly enjoy practising law 
 and helping others\, and you have the intellect\, the motivation and the
  practical skills\, you can succeed beyond your wildest dreams.
