DESCRIPTION:New Date - 17th March at 16:30\n\nProfessor Mark Godsey is a 
 leading scholar\, attorney and activist in the Innocence Movement \n\nIn
  addition to teaching Criminal Law\, Evidence and other courses at UC La
 w\, \nProfessor Godsey co-founded and directs the Ohio Innocence Project
 . The OIP is \nrecognized as one of the most active and successful Innoc
 ence Projects in the \ncountry\, and to date secured the release of 30 i
 ndividuals on grounds of innocence \nwho together served nearly 600 year
 s in prison for crimes they did not commit.\n\nProfessor Godsey is also 
 a regular commentator on issues relating to wrongful \nconviction in bot
 h the local and national press\, and has appeared nationally on Larry \n
 King Live\, Dateline NBC\, CNN\, ESPN\, BBC\, Forensic Files\, and NPR a
 mong others. He \nis frequently quoted in papers and magazines across th
 e country\, including The New \nYork Times\, Newsweek\, People and the W
 all Street Journal. In 2017\, Time Magazine \nprofiled his career. His b
 est-selling 2017 book Blind Injustice:  A Former Prosecutor \nExposes th
 e Psychology and Politics of Wrongful Convictions is considered a \nfoun
 dational work in the field of wrongful convictions.  In 2019\, The Cinci
 nnati Opera \npremiered an original opera\, Blind Injustice\, inspired b
 y the book and the stories of \nsix of OIP's exonerees.\n\nProfessor God
 sey and the OIP have also proposed several significant legislative \nref
 orms in Ohio\, and worked tirelessly to get them passed into law. In 201
 0\, for\nexample\, Governor Strickland signed Senate Bill 77\, a law pro
 posed and \nchampioned by the OIP that has been called "one of the most 
 important pieces of \ncriminal justice legislation in this state in a ce
 ntury\," and a law that makes Ohio a \n"national model" on reforms to re
 duce and prevent the wrongful conviction of the \ninnocent.  In 2018\, G
 overnor Kasich signed the OIP's exoneree compensation bill \ninto law.  
 The OIP currently has a bill pending that would require police to record
  \ninterrogations\, and plan for a full legislative agenda in future yea
 rs.\n\nLaurese Glover.    When he was 16\, Laurese and his two best frie
 nds were convicted \nof a murder they did not commit.  After spending tw
 enty years in prison\, the three \nmen\, knowns as the "East Cleveland 3
 \," were exonerated by the Ohio Innocence \nProject.  In 2019 they were 
 declared innocent by the state of Ohio and compensated \nfor their wrong
 ful convictions.\n\n
