DESCRIPTION:Join us for an open Stakeholder Forum to review and reflect o
n economic development policies for the creative and cultural sectors fo
r the 21st century across the Global North and the Global South.\nThis p
rogramme is the second day of a two-day workshop held at the University
of Manchester in partnership with the Itaú Foundation.\n\nIt convenes pa
rticipants from policy\, industry\, cultural institutions\, NGOs and aca
demia\, with a strong UK/Europe–Brazil/Latin America mix. The aim of Day
2 is to validate the Policy Briefings co-designed on Day 1\, which are
aimed at reshaping CCI policy for an era of overlapping crises and trans
itions. These are centred around four interconnected research axes\,\nCC
Is & Multidimensional Development\nDigitisation\, AI & the Future of Wor
k\nValuing CCIs Beyond GDP\nCCIs\, Climate Resilience & Sustainable Deve
lopment\n\nThe first cycle of CCI policy (c. 2000 onwards) relied on tec
 hnocratic\, growth-first models that underweighted distribution\, inequa
lities\, wellbeing and broad sustainability. A second cycle is now neede
d - one that pursues multidimensional objectives: economic resilience\,
 cultural diversity\, social justice\, wellbeing and climate-compatible d
evelopment.\n\nThe Four Policy Briefings at a Glance\nPB1. CCIs & Multid
imensional Development\nThe first cycle of CCI policy relied on narrow g
rowth-led models that missed fundamental sustainable development dimensi
ons. Through fostering South-North dialogues\, this research axis aims t
o contribute to ongoing scholarly and policy debates concerning new CCI
frameworks capable of integrating equity\, cultural rights\, resilience\
 , and sustainability.\nPB2. Digitisation\, AI & the Future of Work\nOngo
ing technological developments such as Artificial Inteligence (AI) and t
he Internet of Things (IoT) are transforming society and the world of wo
rk. However\, technological change alone doesn’t determine outcomes: whi
le they create new opportunities\, they also deepen existing structural
inequalities related to class\, race\, gender\, and geography. By invest
igating how platforms\, automation and generative AI are reshaping creat
ive labour and value chains\, this research axis aims to contribute to t
he development of strategies that mediate risks and enable pathways to d
ecent creative and cultural work.\nPB3: Valuing CCIs Beyond GDP\nThe dyn
amics of creative and cultural economies are often misrepresented by sta
ndard macroeconomic indicators. This research axis focuses on offering n
ew methodological insights to improve understanding of how public expend
itures affect employment\, income\, and investment in Cultural and Creat
ive Industries (CCIs). To this end\, it advances mixed methods that comb
ine statistical rigour with participatory approaches\, ensuring communit
 y-led valuation.\nPB4: CCIs\, Climate Resilience & Sustainable Developme
nt\nThis research axis aims to contribute to ongoing debates on developm
ent and climate change by exploring how Cultural and Creative Industries
\, often overlooked in climate policy\, can inform more inclusive\, terr
itorially grounded and climate-compatible development pathways.\n\nAcces
sibility\nWe want to make the event a positive experience for all partic
ipants. If you have particular access needs or dietary requirements\, pl
ease let us know in advance by providing details when registering for yo
ur ticket or by emailing us at creative@manchester.ac.uk.
