DESCRIPTION:The course introduces the standard methods of forecasting pop
 ulation\, households and the labour force\, each with age and sex detail
 \, through use of the POPGROUP software. The course uses Data Modules to
  explore government forecasts and participants will make their own alter
 native scenarios. \n\nThe course is motivated by the issues in policy an
 d planning that require population and housing projections\, and the imp
 act of housing plans on population. The focus is on sub-national forecas
 ts for districts of Britain\, but the principles transfer directly to na
 tional forecasts\, to sub-national forecasts of other areas\, and to soc
 ial or ethnic groups\, each of which are discussed. \n\nThe emphasis is 
 on hands-on learning through practical sessions that take the participan
 ts through the preparation of inputs\, running forecasts\, analysing res
 ults\, and adjusting forecasts to implement a range of scenarios or assu
 mptions.
