DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nImmigration is an increasingly politicized issue 
 across Western European countries. While theories of modernization would
  suggest that individuals\, and particularly those from younger generati
 ons\, should be increasingly more tolerant and open-minded\, experiences
  such as economic crisis and difficulties finding employment may lead in
 dividuals to have more negative views of immigrants and integration. \n\
 nThis paper focuses on exploring the nature and extent of generational d
 ifferences in attitudes to immigration and diversity across Western Euro
 pe. It also analyses trends in such attitudes and the extent and nature 
 of age-group differences across time to examine the extent to which soci
 alization experiences of different generations can be seen to explain di
 fferences in attitudes. Cross-national differences are also examined to 
 shed light on whether divergent contexts\, rates and histories of immigr
 ation have an impact on individual-level attitudes.\n\nMaria is a Senior
  Lecturer in Politics and Quantitative Methods at the University of Shef
 field. Her research focuses on political behaviour\, social change\, pol
 itical generations\, and the shift from traditional means of political p
 articipation relating to parties\, electoral politics and left-right con
 flict\, to more diffuse and irregular forms of involvement such as demon
 strations\, issue campaigns and consumer boycotts. Her academic work dea
 ls primarily with quantitative research and statistical analysis of cros
 s-national surveys on political attitudes and behaviour.\n \nCoffee and
