DESCRIPTION:Funded by the Royal Society of Biology. \n\nThe aim of this w
 orkshop is to investigate ways of improving the transition to Higher Edu
 cation in the Biosciences.  We wanted to highlight some of the academic 
 challenges students face including adjustment to new ways of learning\, 
 self-directed and independent learning\; and new and varied teaching met
 hods. This coupled with an increased volume and pace of work\, can be ov
 erwhelming for students.  Therefore\, Higher Education Institutes (HEIs)
  need to be able to manage these expectations to improve the student exp
 erience and to reduce the emotional and academic pressures associated wi
 th the transition. We will evaluate current HEI provisions and provide o
 pportunities for discussion on how this could be incorporated more effec
 tively into a support package for students entering higher education. \n
