DESCRIPTION:With the different contestation of legitimacy\, this lecture 
 will discuss the legitimacy debate with respect to the investment regime
 . \n\nGuest speaker Alexis Galan\, Bocconi University\, will briefly pre
 sent one of the most influential legitimacy accounts within the literatu
 re of international law\, proposed by Thomas Franck.  Although Franck di
 d not write expansively about the investment regime\, the literature on 
 international investment law has drawn extensively from his writings. Hi
 s account provides a focal point from which we can observe and analyse t
 he frequent assumptions on legitimacy made implicitly or explicitly in t
 he debate at later points throughout the discussion. Alexis will subsequ
 ently present the distinction between thin and thick concepts and argues
  that legitimacy is a thin one. Finally\, he will discuss how to approac
 h legitimacy as part of our legal and political vocabulary and what this
  entails with regard to the investment regime and international law.\n
