The session will start with a discussion of what study designs people are currently aware of. Then I will explain the main descriptive, observational and interventional study designs. We will explore the common sources of bias associated with each study design through interactive group work. The students will rank the different study designs to produce the hierarchy of evidence from first principles, and then we will discuss the limitations of applying the hierarchy to public health.
