DESCRIPTION:Alejandro Espinosa-Rada\, The University of Manchester\n\nDyn
amic Multilevel Approach for the study of Scientific Networks\n\nHow can
we understand scientific networks using a dynamic multilevel perspectiv
e? Which types of insights can give the multilevel networks for the unde
rstanding of different mechanisms developed in the network theory and th
e sociology of science? The following presentation addresses this questi
on\, applying different approaches in a national scientific discipline u
sing the frame of inferential networks. Some of the models that are used
to analyse dynamic multilevel networks are the stochastic actor-oriente
d model (SAOM)\, the relational event model (REM)\, and the dynamic netw
ork actor model (DyNAM). The first part of the presentation deals with a
 n Analysis of Multilevel Networks using a three-mode network as a co-evo
lutionary process. The second part explores a Multilevel Network Analysi
s perspective\, comparing ‘parallel’ networks as multiple groups using a
random coefficient multilevel SAOM. Finally\, the presentation will giv
e some outlines of an Analysis of Multilevel Networks when times are tre
ated as interaction in the perspective of REM and DyNAM. The three analy
ses provide different interpretations of the scientific network\, allowi
ng disentangling how the theory of networks and the network theory are u
sed in the context of dynamic models for multilevel scientific networks.
