some Iwasawa algebras\n\nAbstract:\nThe Krull dimension of a commutativ
e algebra measures the dimension of the corresponding variety\, but for
a non-commutative algebra it is often much harder to determine. In this
talk we'll recall the definition\nof Krull dimension for non-commutative
rings\, and introduce the related notion of canonical dimension.\n\nWe'
ll apply these ideas to Iwasawa algebras\, which are the appropriate "gr
oup algebras'' for compact p-adic analytic groups. Our main result is a
bound on the Krull dimension of the Iwasawa algebra of\nSL_2(O_F)\, wher
e F is a finite extension of the p-adic numbers. When F is a quadratic e
xtension\, we find the Krull dimension is exactly 5\, as predicted by a
