DESCRIPTION:Due to unforeseen circumstances\, this seminar has had to be 
 cancelled.  We hope to rearrange this seminar for a future date.\n\nAbst
 ract:\nThe common conclusion from work-life studies is that work-life im
 balance is largely a middle-class problem. It will be argued that this c
 lassed assertion is a direct outcome of a particular and narrow interpre
 tation of work-life imbalance in which time is seen to be the major caus
 e of difficulty. Labour market time\, and too much of it\, dominates the
  conceptualization of work-life and its measurement. This heavy focus on
  ‘too much’ labour market time has rendered largely invisible from work-
 life discourses the types of imbalance that are more likely to impact th
 e working-class. The paper challenges the study of work life balance to 
 move beyond its core interest in the middle-class and their time-pressur
 ed work-lives. The work-life balance debate needs to more fully incorpor
 ate economic- and not just time-based imbalances if it is to better repr
 esent class inequalities. The paper draws upon secondary analysis of lar
 ge cross-sectional data from the British Household Panel Survey (BHPS) a
 nd Understanding Society (US). \n\nSpeaker:\nTracey Warren is a Professo
 r of Sociology in the School of Sociology and Social Policy\, University
  of Nottingham\, UK. Her research interests lie in the sociology of work
  and employment. More specifically\, these interests include inequalitie
 s in work-time\; income\, wealth and financial security\; work-life bala
