DESCRIPTION:Teaching Matters began in MIE (TEPL) and now welcomes everyon
e to share HE teaching practice across SEED and Humanities. Each worksho
p blends theoretical insight with practical tools for effective teaching
\, learning and assessment. We hope this is useful for professional lear
ning generally and particularly supportive for colleagues working on HNA
P and/or Advance HE fellowships. \n\nAbout the workshop: Students enteri
ng higher education face a transition in their studying and assessments
experience\, moving away from knowledge acquisition towards the demonstr
ation of higher order cognitive skills such as synthesising information
and critical thinking (Wong & Chui\, 2020). As students need to feel com
petent and confident in understanding what they need to do to successful
ly undertake assessments (Wilkinson\, 2024) it is important that we effe
ctively scaffold students in developing these higher order cognitive ski
lls. This workshop will provide guidance and tips on how to create a stu
dent checklist to help scaffold students through the assessment process.
This workshop is suitable for all colleagues\, new and experienced acad
emics with an interest or involvement in effective assessment design and
  implementation.
