iples\, Addressing the Global Humanitarian Challenge

DESCRIPTION:Jane Cocking\, Humanitarian Director for Oxfam GB\, will lead
a debate on the options for addressing the growing levels of humanitari
an need in the coming decades.\n\nHumanitarian need is growing exponenti
ally but the capacity to address it is not. Examples of the costs of cur
rent humanitarian operations will demonstrate the impossibility of simpl
y continuing to grow response capacity by a “more of the same” approach.
\n\nThis is a problem that we are all wresting with and Jane welcomes th
e thoughts of the Manchester audience. This event will be a dynamic even
t with audience engagement rather than a formal panel session\, in order
to try and draw out the issues. In this session Jane will explore why "
partnership" could be the answer\, the challenges\, and propose a princi
pled approach to decision making.\n\nA Humanities graduate\, Dr Jane Coc
king was given an Outstanding Alumna Award for her humanitarian work thi
s summer. Outstanding Alumni Awards are presented to alumni who have ach
ieved distinction in their profession\; or through exemplary service to
the University or the wider community\; or through outstanding service o
f a personal or humanitarian nature. Jane received the award for her wor
k in responding to humanitarian crisis around the world.\n\nRegister to
