DESCRIPTION:CURE guest seminar\n\nCentre for Urban Resiliance and Energy:
  http://www.seed.manchester.ac.uk/cure/\n\nCities worldwide are growing
at an unprecedented rate\,presenting major challenges: growing populatio
ns and expanding infrastructures\, demographics and lifestyles\, technol
ogies and communities are all in flux. Research that addresses the quali
ty of life (QOL)\, or quality of urban life (QOUL) of urban residents\,
can be very helpful in meeting this challenge. Such research can also ex
amine the ‘culture of sustainability’ among urban residents\, increasing
ly important in city management which is not only about planning but ‘en
abling’. In this seminar we aim to link the QOUL agenda to wider questio
ns on the CURE agenda. We need to consider the linkage of the QOUL goals
with ‘urban resilience’ or ‘urban prosperity’: how far QOUL can be main
tained in the coming ‘low carbon’ and ‘sustainable consumption’ transiti
ons: and the role of\nurban policy-makers in improving or enabling QOUL.
