Presented by Dr Christine Rogers (Reader in Psychology & Deputy Associate Dean for Student Experience) and Angela Standish (Careers Manager BMH and Placements) & Martine Storey (Employability Consultant)

With shifting recruitment trends including the growing influence of AI, the Careers Service delivers responsive careers support to FBMH students. This workshop will guide you through various careers interventions accessible to students and asks you to consider career support and skill development opportunities within curriculum interventions, day-to-day interactions to bring about successful careers outcomes in a competitive student and graduate jobs market.

The workshop will include interactive discussion and group based activities around:

Recruitment trends, the use of AI in hiring candidates and new emerging careers

An update on The Careers Service support and interventions to FBMH students including video interview, situational judgement and employer facing events

De-mystifying ‘employability skills’ and looking at transferable skill development in the curriculum alongside content. Exercise from Dr Christine Rogers on creating opportunities to develop and evidence digital literacy for students in BSc Psychology #embeddingemployability

A missing link? How might we help students identify and evidence transferable skills from academia to support success in job and further study applications, interviews and assessment centres

How FBMH students perform in terms of graduate outcomes and government metrics

Implementation of FBMH Employability Strategic Plan and readiness for subject-level TEF and Graduate Outcomes

Delegates will leave the masterclass with a good understanding of:

current recruitment practices from The Times Top 100 companies and a range of employers within the public sector how to sign-post students and graduates to resources and activities that support their early career ambitions role university staff play in helping students translate skills from their degree/placement to early careers ambitions examples of how to create training opportunities for students to develop and evidence skills that can be used in applications, CVs, Cover Letters and interviews challenges ahead with the changing landscape of government employability

The Academy for Education and Professional Development’s mission is “To ensure consistent high-quality development and delivery of educational programmes with student experience at their heart”. Academy events are open to all those who contribute to the development, delivery and management of FBMH undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development programmes including staff from across the University, the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre and our NHS clinical education partners. The Pedagogy Seminar Series provides a forum to discuss research undertaken and/or pedagogy literature of interest.
