This workshop, run by artsmethods@manchester, aims to expose how language, both spoken and written, enacts social and cultural ideologies. It is directed at postgraduate researchers who work with and understand language widely as social practice. Participants will gain an understanding of the uses and applications of Discourse Analysis as a theory of language, and simultaneously, as a method for researching written and oral language as it is actually used. They will also acquire the specific terminology related to this method of research and differentiate between its various range of methodologies.

Biography: Dr Letizia Alterno is an Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of English, American Studies and Creative Writing and has been running artsmethods@manchester methodology and theory workshops since 2012. She specialises in postcolonial studies.
