Title: Finite presentability of Thompson monoids.
Abstract: I will exaplain a few of the standard ways of thinking about Thompson's group V and the Thompson monoid containing it. I will then use these ideas to give an outline of Thompson's original (seemingly unpublished) proof that the monoid is finitely ganerated and presented. If time permits, I will go on to discuss how I and my coauthor Bill de Witt generalize these ideas for a larger family of Thompson-type monoids.
