DESCRIPTION:African states raise more revenue through taxation than the c
 ombined total of overseas development assistance\, foreign direct invest
 ment\, and remittances. Yet\, on average\, they only collect around 15% 
 of GDP in taxes\, which is roughly half the OECD average. Strengthening 
 domestic revenue mobilisation is a key development priority\, especially
  in the context of declining foreign aid (i.e. the dismantling of USAID)
  and rising debt levels in developing economies. \n\nWe are delighted to
  welcome to Dr Alex Moyem Kombat\, Assistant Commissioner for Research a
 nd Policy at the Ghana Revenue Authority to the GDI. Prof Sam Hickey\, D
 r Elisa Gambino\, and Dr Antonio Savoia will join this roundtable discus
 sion on the relationship between taxation and development. Dr Kombat wil
 l draw on his practitioner experience and on the collaborative project b
 etween Ghana Revenue Authority\, the GDI\, and the Ghana Institute of Ma
 nagement and Public Administration titled “Taxation for Development (T4D
 )”. The roundtable participants will discuss the politics of taxation\, 
 informal sector tax\, and the governance of domestic revenue mobilisatio
 n. \n
