SUMMARY:Webinar: Big Data and Social Research Ethics
UID:{http://www.columbasystems.com/customers/uom/gpp/eventid/}s1w-isvjp5v

DESCRIPTION:Big data is everywhere - or at least it seems to be. It may s
eem that all social research is now devoted to big data in various forms
 : social media\, administrative data\, transaction records\, geo-spatial
data\, and more.\n\nThis dominance might be slightly exaggerated\, but
there is no doubt that big data raises big questions about ethics in soc
ial research:\n\n - Is consent relevant for big data? If so\, how should
it be obtained?\n - What about privacy? Are data collected from social
media sites public or private or something else?\n - What if my data sup
plier says not to share my data\, but my journal says I must?\n\nThis we
binar doesn't promise to answer all questions. However\, it will offer a
structured introduction to the topic\, share emerging knowledge and goo
d practice with some examples from leading big data researchers\, and pr
ovide resources for more information in selected areas.\n\nThis is an in
troductory webinar aimed at researchers interested in big data and socia
l research ethics. The webinar will consist of a 30 minute presentation
 followed by questions and answers.
