 and online. It is open to everyone with A-level students especially welc
 ome.\n\nThe Faculty of Biology\, Medicine and Health in collaboration wi
 th The Linnean Society of London will host the 2023 Irene Manton lecture
 .\n\nCelebrating the significant contribution made by women to the Natur
 al Sciences\, this year our speaker will be Julia Patricia Gordon Jones\
 , Professor in Conservation Science\, Bangor University.\n\nJulia will e
 xplore whether conservation is working and if so\, how do we know that i
 t is? She will explore questions such as ‘do protected areas stop specie
 s declining?’\, ‘is carbon offsetting slowing the loss of tropical fores
 ts?’ and ‘how can a small conservation organization best save the critic
 ally endangered Livingstone Fruit Bat?’.\n\nThe Linnean Society of Londo
 n will tell the fascinating story of Irene Manton\, who the lecture is n
 amed after and the vital contribution that she made to botany.\n\nTaking
  place in person on The University of Manchester campus\, the event will
  also be live-streamed for attendees wanting to attend remotely. Further
