The initial part of this workshop will provide you with insights into designing and developing initiatives to create social as well as commercial impact. Following this, you'll be put into small teams as honorary Social Entrepreneurs in Residence to work on a new social initiative for Manchester. You will collectively design, develop and present a concept that provides housing, training, work experience and employment support to groups of individuals in the city facing homelessness.
The new social initiative is based on a successful model and platform that redevelops unused commercial property to provide social housing on the upper floors, and space to run social enterprise initiatives on the ground floor. You will be tasked with selecting the types of individuals to house and support, as well as designing a social enterprise that can provide these individuals with additional on-site help.
For the final part of the workshop you'll present a pitch on your team's concept, as well as take questions and gain feedback from the speaker and peers in the workshop. After the workshop you'll hold a better understanding on social entrepreneurship and mission-led business, in addition to the ways you can successfully design, develop and create initiatives that can help the wider community in a sustainable way.
