DESCRIPTION:At this seminar\, Dr Luke Munford\, Lecturer in Health Econom
ics at the University of Manchester\, will present a talk titled 'It’s G
rim Up North! Regional Inequalities in COVID-19'.\n\n\nSummary\nIn March
2020\, we were initially told that we were “all in it together” during
the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. However\, it quickly became app
arent that this was not the case\, and certain groups of people were mor
e vulnerable than others. \n\nIn this talk\, I will outline some regiona
l differences in a number of outcomes during the first wave (March to Ju
ly 2020). These outcomes will include mortality rates (all-cause and att
ributable to COVID-19)\, measures of mental health\, as well as social a
nd economic outcomes. \n\nThis work was part of a report for the NHSA an
 d the Northern NIHR-ARCs: [https://www.thenhsa.co.uk/app/uploads/2020/11
/NP-COVID-REPORT-101120-.pdf COVID Report] (downloadable pdf)\n\nNew inf
ormation relating to inequalities during the second wave (October 2020 o
nwards) will also be presented. The key takeaway is that the North was d
isproportionately hit\, and urgent action is needed if ‘levelling-up’ re
ally is a major aim of the government. \n\n\n\nFor Zoom details\, pleas
